Everything about the container (or maritime container)
Whenever we talk about shipping or cargo we refer to containers. It is not the only existing form of transport by sea, but it is the majority. If the container is the king of the load in general it is thanks to its flexibility, low cost and standardization. Today, we honor the container by revealing all its secrets.
What is a container?
First things first, a container is a shipping equipment that according to the definitions of the International Convention for the Security of Containers (CSC): is permanent in nature, it is designed to facilitate the transport of goods in several modes of transport without intermediate handling and it carries special anchors in the corners (corners).
The minimum area that a container must have is between 7 and 14 square meters according to the C.S.C. or 1 meter according to the ISO standard. The measurements can vary a lot, although always within the limits pre-established by C.S.C and ISO.
What are the types of containers?
There are many types divided by different aspects. Some are not very common, but the most common is to find 20 and 40 feet dry van and 45 high cubes.
How do I get a container? What fits inside a container?

You can also resort to some agencies that rent containers, although they do it mainly through the shipping companies.
The shippers can buy them, but it must be kept in mind that the maintenance costs are high and only profitable if the cargo is very regular.
About it's capacity, it is usually measured on pallets. In 1 TEU, 10 standard pallets can be accomodated or 12 European pallets. In one of 2 TEUs, 22 standard pallets or 27 European pallets. These measurements are based on the surface, since they can fit more if they are stacked.
As expected, there are many simple applications that can calculate how many boxes fit. And, of course, it is not necessary to fill a whole container, you can always look for grupaje services that can also be cheaper (especially if the load volume is not very large).
One last detail, the weight. It is very important to respect the maximum weight; if it exceeds, there are large fees for the charger. Finally, it is essential that the content is well secured (stowage), to avoid damage to the cargo and the container itself. The owners can claim the damages made to it.
